I was very satisfied with the Medical Spanish program at Academia Columbus in Santo Domingo de Heredia, C.R.. My teacher Zeidy Rodriguez, although not trained to teach a medical interpreting program ( She has been working with doctors and nurses.), proved to be very flexible. I was basically able to form my own program with her. She had many health worker contacts, so I attended many informational programs such as Youth Health Ed, Obesity, etc. and was able to sit next to doctors, nurses and even a social worker as they interviewed patients. I even had the opportunity to interpret for 2 days for a group of American nursing students from Penninsula University, Oregon, who were studying the Costa Rican Health Care System. The Director and Assistan Director of the Santo Domingo Health Center spoke and took them on a tour of the area health centers.

My family (Arias-Samora) was terrific, curious and talkative. I fell in love with them. I believe the feelings are mutual. I experienced warmth and was given the privacy I needed to study. The atmosphere of the school is friendly and helpful. I enjoyed their activities and the office (Eva and Vanessa) was always helpful. My spoken Spanish and comprehension have improved dramatically due to this program. Thank you for a wonderful experience!
