Entry regulations

Costa Rica

For U.S., Canadian, and British Citizens: The documentation necessary to enter Costa Rica will differ depending on your nationality. A valid passport and return ticket will allow for U.S. , Canadian, and British citizens to remain in Costa Rica for 90 days as a tourist. If you are a resident of the U.S. but do not hold citizenship, you may need other documentation. It is important to note that things do change so you should check with the Costa Rican Embassy for the most up to date information. For Other Nationalities: The Costa Rican Embassy in each country determines the specific requirements necessary to enter the country. If you have any uncertainty as to your status, please contact the Costa Rican Embassy at www.costarica-embassy.org

For Stays Longer than 90 Days: If you plan to remain in the country for more than 90 consecutive days you will need a visa. If you are enrolled in classes for the 90 days we are able to provide an official letter indicating the dates that you are enrolled for classes and this will enable you to work with the Costa Rican consulate to obtain a student visa. This letter must be requested from our office if you are eligible. It is a good idea to make a photocopy of your passport and carry that around with you instead of the original. Your passport is most likely safer in your host family's home or other accommodation than it is with you. You do need to have your original passport in order to make bank transactions such as cashing traveler's checks.

Ecuador

For U.S. , Canadian, and British Citizens: The documentation necessary to enter Ecuador will differ depending on your nationality. A valid passport and return ticket will allow for U.S. , Canadian, and British citizens to remain in Ecuador for 90 days as a tourist.

Academia Columbus will not be held liable for a failure on your part to obtain the necessary documentation needed to enter Costa Rica or Ecuador. If you are taveling with minors or a minor is traveling alone, there may be additional documentation required by Costa Rican authorities or the airlines.
